200 Students Disagreed About Everything — Respectfully

July 20, 2026

Ryan Gans, a student at Florida State University, runs Agree to Disagree, an annual civil discourse event where students from every discipline gather to discuss some of today’s most challenging issues with facilitators and ground rules designed to make honest conversation possible.

Baratunde Thurston sits down with Ryan to hear how he met with nearly every dean at FSU to bring together engineers, medical students, law students, social work students, and others to engage across different perspectives.

DIY Civics is a series produced by Andrew Carnegie Foundation featuring our Carnegie Young Leaders in action.
