Faculty Institute

The Faculty Institute is a professional learning experience for faculty at schools participating in College Presidents for Civic Preparedness. It supports faculty in redesigning an existing course, developing a new one, or leading on-campus workshops that equip students with the skills to engage in productive conversations.

INTRODUCTION

Help Your Students Have Productive Conversations

College doesn’t just prepare students for careers; it shapes them into the citizens they will become.

The Faculty Institute is an offering for members of College Presidents for Civic Preparedness—our coalition of 125+ campus leaders committed to strengthening their campus culture.

The Faculty Institute is an 18-month professional learning experience for faculty across all disciplines to design courses or lead campuswide workshops that teach students how to have respectful discussions and solve problems across differences.

The Faculty Institute gives educators the vital space, tools, and community to help build healthier, more open campus cultures, fueled by genuine curiosity, critical analysis, and respect for differences.

The Challenge

Too often civic readiness is treated as optional, or as a one-off class, project or workshop. Students need spaces to practice core civic skills—and conditions to make this culture of civic readiness possible.

The Experience

Starting with a 2.5-day in-person convening that leads into 18 months of virtual sessions, faculty learn and apply C&S’s proven frameworks.

The Outcome

Faculty are equipped with a redesigned course or workshop that ensures students graduate ready to strengthen their communities and tackle the challenges of their generation.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Structure for educators, impact for students

When faculty create spaces for students to practice having tough yet productive conversations, everything shifts. Students start seeing hard issues as shared problems to solve, not battles to win. It creates trust and cultivates collaboration that extends far beyond the classroom, preparing young people to create bold, fresh solutions that move their communities forward.
