“The fellowship taught me how to set smart goals, break things down into tangible tasks, and work backwards from big picture to small picture.”
Samantha Sandhaus saw her classmates go hungry while perfectly good food was being tossed, so she decided to start a community fridge. When it took off, she turned it into the nonprofit Feeding Philly. The organization is still going strong, with 1,500 lbs of food collected and repurposed and 2,000 families served.
Samantha is showing what’s possible when young people have the tools and support to solve challenges they see right in front of them. Her work brings people together around a shared need.
By 2029, C&S will bring together 20 million young people like Samantha to step up as civic problem-solvers.
